Knitalongs

For a number of years, several people at Vic have been organising Lent Knitalongs. The idea is to knit a mystery pattern over the course of Lent with some reflections or Bible verses for you to think about as you knit a few rows each day. Sometimes (though not always) the reflections even tie in with what is being knitted!

The first few years we had around 20 people taking part. Then in 2022 we advertised our Knitalong on a couple of national Methodist Facebook groups and were inundated with people wanting to join in. Since then we have grown to be a global community of thousands of people who use knitting to reflect on our faith and journey with God during Lent (and occasionally also Advent). Over the years we have received some wonderful testimonies of how the knitting and reflections have been a comfort and support to people who have been ill, housebound or grieving, got people talking about their faith to others or have created and strengthened communities. We are always very touched when others share these stories with us and so grateful for what this combination of knitting and reflection is enabling God to do in people’s lives.

Here are information and images from our previous Knitalongs:

If you would like to join our Knitalong mailing list, then do sign up below. We will e-mail you the weekly knitting pattern and reflections during Lent and information about future knitalongs. You can unsubscribe at any time. We try to make our knitalongs as accessible as possible, so that both beginner and advanced knitters can join in (several of us at Vic learned to knit on one of these knitalongs). And if you don’t manage to keep up each day – don’t worry – you won’t be the only one!

We also have a Knitalong Facebook Group where we publish the pattern each week during Lent and where a lovely community of knitters across the world share progress, ask questions and chat about the reflections.
